Race Countdown: Thanksgiving Day
8 A.M. Thursday, November 27th 2014

Dogs have always been welcome to participate in the Turkey Trot and we want your four-legged family members to join us so some changes have been made in order to keep allowing dogs at this event.

NEW in 2013the DOG JOG!  All dogs (and their human!) will begin the Trot after all other participants have crossed the start line at approximately 8:15. (service dogs are exempt)  Dogs will be allowed on the 2 mile course only.  Please- no dogs on the 5 mile route.

With thousands of people and hundreds of dogs doing the Turkey Trot we needed to make some changes in order to continue to allow dogs to participate in this event. After meeting with city officials, public safety officers, and insurance companies for the city and the event,  the compromise was to have dogs on the 2 mile route only and also to have them start after all other participants.  In fact, we really had to beg to allow dogs in some communities because they have  very strict no dog policies at all events. If the new regulations are not followed we are in jeopardy of not allowing dogs at all in the future. We appreciate your cooperation.

Dogs do not need to be registered but we will have bandanas available for $5 cash or check at packet pick up and on race day if your pooch wants to dress up for the Trot!

There are lots of people, noises, and excitement so for the safety of your dog and others around you:

Please only bring dogs that are well-behaved and used to being around other dogs and people.
Dogs should be kept on leash that is shorter than 6 feet. No retractable leashes, which may be hazardous in a crowd.
Please clean up after your dog. Bags are available but you can bring your own.
Limit one dog per person.
Dogs should be at least 6 months old and up to date on vaccinations.
